About our Group
11th Nuneaton (Weddington) Scout Group was formed 1950 and has introduced 1000's of children and adults into the Scouting ways over the years. In the year 2000 we celebrated our 50th birthday with a party at the Scout Scout, a special badge (designed by one of our members!) and, for 53 lucky members, a 2 week camp in Canada. The Canada 2000 website is still available for viewing. See the photo and video's page.
We are a large group, with an average of around 200 members. We have two Beaver Colonies, two Cub Packs, two Scout Troops and a large Explorer and Network Scout section.
We have sections meeting every night of the week. Beavers run on Mondays and Fridays, Cubs on Mondays and Thursdays, Scouts on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the Explorers meet on Wednesdays. Network arrange activities to fit around University and work.
Most meetings are based at our own building, the Scout Hut.
We are part of Nuneaton District
Our Group Scout Leader is Doug and our committee Chairman is Colin.
Please contact us for further information. We would be particularly interested in anyone who has any more info as to the history of our group, or if anyone is interested in joining us in a leadership role.
Activities are the biggest part of Scouting. Activities can be part of the weekly meeting, such as games, cooking, tracking or a trip. As a group we organise many camps though out the year. Although it is not until Cubs when young people get to campout, Beavers are invited to spend the day on some camps, as well as having their own activity days. Scouts, Explorers and Network Scouts get the opportunity to camp several times a year, with a winter camp (for the older Scouts), early summer group camp and the week long annual summer camp to look forward to. Cubs have their own weekend camp as well as the opportunity to join a district camp.
