Volunteer with Us!
11th Nuneaton (Weddington) Scout Group would love your help!
We’re really proud of our Scout group, and our long history of providing fun and adventure to so many young people (and adults!). However, as with all volunteer organisations we can’t do it without help, and our need for adult volunteers is as strong as ever, so that we can deliver our programme, and continue to positively impact our community.
So, we’re on the look out for willing volunteers to join our leadership team, and we think it could be you!
We’re looking for leaders across all our sections; Beavers (who work with 6-8 year olds), Cubs (8-10.5 year olds), Scouts (10.5 to 14 year olds) as well as Explorers (14-18 year olds).
Specifically, we have an immediate need for extra help for the following sections:
· Beaver Volunteers for Friday nights (6pm-7:15pm)
· Cub Volunteers for Wednesday nights (6:15pm-7:30pm)
· Scout Volunteers for both Tuesdays (7:15pm-8:45pm) and Thursdays (7pm-8:30pm)
AND we’d really love to open up a Squirrel Drey, an exciting new section for 4-6 year olds, but to do this we’ll need a whole new team of leaders to run (we think) on either a Tuesday or a Thursday between 5pm and 6pm… although this can be flexed depending on the volunteers as we can only offer this once we get the team in place!
Ace, but what does a Section Volunteer do?
Section volunteers are the uniformed leaders you see every week. Working on a weekly basis they run games, activities, events and even camps, ensuring our members have a brilliant time whilst learning new skills and gaining valuable life experiences. There are no qualifications required to volunteer with a section - just enthusiasm and a desire have a good time yourself.
For these roles we’re really hoping for volunteers who will be happy to:
1. Organise brilliant activities which our young people will enjoy safely
2. Help build our leadership community at 11th Nuneaton by joining in with group or District wide activities – we want to have a real sense of connection across all our teams
3. Be happy to keep the basics in order; there will be some administration in keeping records up to date and in managing risk, so we’d want you to know that from the outset
How do I know what activities to run?
The Scout Association produce a comprehensive badge scheme, made up of challenges and activities. Simply pick the badge (or part of a badge) you want your young people to work towards, then use the suggested activities to base your meeting on.
And will there be training?
Yes! Its part of making sure we offer a great programme. We have a comprehensive yet flexible training scheme we can tailor around your needs so you can learn on the go.
The main aspects to this will be:
· Initial online training about how we keep our young people safe, the basics of a leaders role, and an introduction to Scouting
· Practical First Aid Training, fully paid for, which gives a life skill relevant beyond scouting
· Specific skills training for particular interests, such as how to run nights away, manage young people or organise international trips
We also have lots of experienced volunteers who can guide you through the process – we want you to feel supported at every step!
What's in it for me?
You gain pretty much everything our young people do! You will learn new skills, make new friends, gain new qualifications, do things you never thought you would ever do, travel to places to never dreamed of going to - the possibilities are endless! In 2023, some of our young people and volunteers even went to South Korea for the International Jamboree!

OK, I could be interested, what's the next step?
Please email our Group Scout Leader at [email protected]
We’ll then be in touch to discuss your specific interests, and if it feels right for you, put you in touch with the relevant team for a further conversation and a possible section visit.
Our roles will be subject to a DBS check. Once this is complete we’ll be good to go and start Scouting!
Thank you for your time,
Yours in Scouting
